Organisation:
Anthropologist of material culture
Im interested in authentic luxury because:
I am an anthropologist with over 5 years grounded fieldwork experience in Argentina, South Africa and now India.

I have also previously specialized in gender and development working for organizations including IDS, UNIFEM and the African Gender Institute.

I am currently a candidate at the department of anthropology, University College London. My anthropological specialization is material culture and my ethnographic focus is on the fashion industry and ethics of consumption in India.

My interest in luxury is motivated by its unique potential to forge new commercial practices in the following areas:

*Environmental sustainability
*High value added design promoting social innovation and sustainable livelihoods

A core aspect of my fieldwork is understanding how design and production for luxury consumption can promote the valuing of artisinal skills and sustain both urban and rural livelihoods.

Dear Phyllida:

I am a professor of strategic management at PESIT, Bangalore. One of my research interests is the link between social entrepreneurship and the luxury industry. I believe understanding this is key to our undesratnding and transformation of the modern global ethos.

I find the details you have given of your fieldwork fascinating, and I would be very interested in starting a dialogue and communicating with you on these issues on a regular basis.

With best regards

Murali Murti
